Accommodation
Where shall I stay?
Every student has individual requirements, but working with the school will help ensure the best combination of comfort, security, location and the best opportunities to speak the target language in natural settings.
All of the schools represented by Alexandria Language Services offer a variety of accommodations, including:
Home stay with a local family
- Most students choose this option. It provides the best opportunities to meet people and practice language skills outside the classroom.
- Host families are carefully chosen and homes are regularly inspected.
- Most schools offer “Breakfast Only” or “Half-Board” options.
- Many students become life-long friends with their host families
- Occasionally, students and families are just not comfortable together. In these cases, the school’s home stay coordinator will help select alternate accommodations.
- Host families may live some distance from the school by public transport. Early enrollment ensures greater choice of location.
- Laundry service is not included, but on-site washers/dryers are common.
- Private bathrooms are often available, but some students share facilities.
Student residence
- Depending on the school, this may be in a small “Pension” or guest house near the school, or it may be attached to the school.
- In most residences, students share rooms and bathrooms. However, private rooms may be available, especially during off peak seasons.
- Many residences provide shared kitchens where students prepare their own meals.
Other accommodations
- Students may also choose rented apartments, suites or hotels.
- If you would like to rent an apartment, ALS is happy to work with the school to arrange this.
Are the accommodations safe?
- The schools that ALS represents carefully select their accommodations in neighborhoods that are considered safe and secure.
- However, cities everywhere have security issues, and students must always remain alert to their surroundings. .
